currently loving: a celebratory playlist

songs i've been drawn to as midterms have concluded today. i feel as though the midterms battle lasted ten years. and as if the misery isn't going to return in 1.5 months... but for now:

obviously

obviously

skip to 0:38 i really don't understand how rush hour 2 is such a good movie.
also any song from michael jackson's "this is it," is it.

so right now

(Train is so catchy. screw you ford commercial that intruded my intimate family guy time and made me powerfully addicted to this one song)

(the studio version, which i much prefer over drunk man screaming in background)

so right now: songs i wash the dishes to

jackson 5 = dancing = better times washing dirty dishes.

"How Does She Handle Her Boobs Bouncing Everywhere Like Dat O_O" cristal905, I asked the same question.

hate his hair/look, but nonetheless a great song to sing along to to make me believe i can sing and audition for xfactor. speaking of xfactor....

note: zayn in a white tee in a pool
(making this music video must've been the most fun thing ever)
(i am so disappointed with their lyrics, but what can i expect anymore)

more xfactor related things

and just because i know you will cry after watching this.

so right now

to be honest, all five of my picks would be from gowe (others: coffee table, i wonder, by the sea) and then my hillsong pick. screw it, why don't i just do that. eh, i already picked my other songs so HERE YA GOWE (see what i did there)

so right now

what i've been listenin to. my top five.

erinz comentary: i've been wanting to be a frank ocean fan since i heard his name had the word 'ocean' in it, and after skimming his album, i can more legitimately say that i am a fan of frank beyond his chill name.

erinz commentary: i need to see them in new york city. but i also need to save money. the eternal dilemma. well alex's wild dreams are the next best thing.

erinz commentary: i hate the first 10ish seconds of this song. someone commented on this video "i swear the intro is from runescape" or something like that. and i swear that he swears truth.

erinz commentary: let's just say this is an eclectic mix but i am one eclectic person. this is one of my favorite songs from that movie. i have been shamelessly dancing my booty off and pretend i'm a back up dancer to this song whenever my roommate isn't home.

erinz commentary: god has been so good, i can't even begin. i just ask that he let his grace overflow on my family, my mother, and my life. i think this is a good closer song for the five, god is my beginning middle end and everything else and i'm so excited for life. right now is tough, but also so good. only god can do that magic. seriously.

peace! (was about to totally insert another song as my 'song of the moment' woops. well shoot here's an extra one for kicks)

wait don't have peace yet. letting you know that i am on the instagram @erkishhh, and the twitter @erkishh and tumblr @fashionunscripted

my playlist

So summer has officially begun since I haven't been going to school any more--I still don't feel much different. A quick update on my life; I've started my summer job at this awesome local art academy and I get to hear the funniest things from the kids that go to the summer camps, etc. I'll probably start a quote of the day or something.

Besides this summer, I'm not sure when I'll be in beloved Washington again, so I've been making plans to indulge in Seattle as much as possible while I'm here this summer! But I guess it's ironic to say that I'll be up in the air tomorrow, heading to New York for my college orientation! I'm so excited! ^_^ But I'll be back soon enough to blog, etc. I have like 5 outfit posts I want to share; they'll come.

And if ya know me, no matter what I'm up to, music is always abound in the mind of Erin Kim. Here's a couple tunes I've been listening to--some recently discovered, and I finally updated my playlist on the right column! On Youtube, I have about 250 songs total for my 'listening to' playlist, but there's just a snippet for funsies. :)

Have an awesome couple o' days! Talk soon!

color me ginger

I have never felt so fan girl like I did a few nights ago. I was just inches away from touching one of the band members' hand. Ok, I should probably backtrack. So some nights ago, I went to Two Door Cinema Club's concert in Seattle and it was LEH-JIT to say the least! I was just a few feet away from my favorite ginger. *swoon*

For one, the guys who opened for them were really awesome--Work Drugs--they had a really chill, but rich sound. Each member had snazzy sunglasses. and I was a big fan of the one girl in the band. She's so "alluring" as my friend says.

my camera was wack. and no, i'm not doing a peace sign, i'm just pointing at them, which isn't much less cheesier... :/

Back to Two Door. I did a post on them a while back, and although I listen to a ton of other bands/musicians and I haven't really gotten to showcase them, I guess TDCC will just have two posts about them!

One of my fav moments was when everyone was moshing (great word choice?) and i just let the rhythm--or lack thereof--of the crowd move me, closed my eyes, then looked up at the ceiling with it's texture like a canvas with tons of acrylic paint splattered on it, and the lights just illuminating the room as i could feel the music, the excitement run through my veins. (i realize it sounds like i was high...but i promise i don't do that stuff. i am actually high on life.) and when you take that figurative step back from the craze of the moment, it's just like 'wow, this is it. this is life. this is beautiful.' and i could see little flecks of dust flying in the air, time was slow and there was just this moment in which you knew everyone around you was happy even if they were being stepped on and squished between sweaty moshers--I definitely have a huge bruise on my ankle; it's going to look ugly for prom...)

I loved being able to stand still and feel the bass guide my heartbeat, the movement of the crowd . the rhythm of the bass felt like my heartbeat and everything just felt.. so together. even though my face was smothered in some girls garnier fructis-smelling hair (thank god it smelled like good shampoo and not bad hair or B.O. like summ ppll). every crash sunk in and jumping with everyone in unison, all because we love the music, we love the the sound, we love the moment. no matter where we're coming from and no matter who we are, we were all having a blast together. all for the music. all for the love.

The performance was grand. they weren't awkward at all, their casual, experienced and down to earth feeling made it seem like i was watching some friends perform on stage (yeah, in my dreams). and my friend caught one of their towels they threw! you should've seen us screaming after the show in awe of a...towel. and we were like "SMELL IT! IT SMELLS SO GOOD" *SMELL* "OH MY GOSH!!!" *JUMP 3 FEET IN THE AIR (that's really how it went down).

After the show, I got to meet the drummer--I think he's so underrated and super awesome. I don't know why he's not in album covers and band photos. He adds a lot to their sound. Anywho, he was so approachable, not pretentious at all or anything. He is so gorgeous, too. He signed the back of my new TDCC shirt (which is a size XL, smallest they had left but works for me!). My friend had the guts to smooch him on the cheek. I need to learn to be bold like that.

My camera is also extra broken down; the lil navigating buttons don't work unless I line them up meticulously in place, but MAN all I can think about is how AWESOME the night was. I'll not forget it. I wish I could've shook their hand and met them, but it was exhilarating just to be a few feets away from them and see them live.

an extra fan girl-y photo. i think it's hilarious how cheesy i look in these.

and every outfit post has to have some photos for the lolz, c'mon. and guess what? have you noticed i'm wearing shoes in these photos? probably not, because i couldn't angle the cam quite well to showcase my shoes, but yes, i'm wearing boots!

yeea mama

two full weeks with no blogging?! oy vey.  i'm not exactly back, but...here i am for a moment! haha. to give you a quick overview of my life, here's a few notes:
  • searching for my prom dress! was gonna get a BCBG or Betsey Johnson one but mannn, they are just outta my budget. i do have my eye on this blue and green full length dress i found at a bridal/prom store in bellevue, wa and it's on sale (but i need alterations, but anyway). i was so excited that a long dress looked good on me cuz i'm sooper short and i never imaged a long dress to work. i tried this on at nordstrom and i fell in love, but again, the $$$ was not so nice. :[ i'll let you know the verdict!
  • also looking for a prom date -__-
  • also having intense boy issues. high school boys are stupid. but i still like them. what's up with that. i would tell you more, but apparently my parents read this. hi mom and dad.
  • almost done with my online art course! here was my latest/last assignment (incorporate writing/words with some sort of image. i went for a watercolor image of a face of an 'everyday girl'--that was the goal at least. if you have q's about it, dont hesitate to ask!)

  • waiting on colleges! so far, i'm getting more rejections than acceptances. it's especially painful to get two rejection letters in one day, one from a school you really loved. eh oh well. i know god's got amazing plans for me (and everyone!) no matter which colleges accept me. :] i'm not a fan of posting college acceptances online, but.. i'll try to let ya know when i decide ;) hopefully i hear more good news this week!! please keep me in your prayers! this is the most intense time of my life. seriously.

  • although i aint sharing college news and divulging more about my boy probs, i can most definitely share the music i've been jamming to. i've been listening to new/old music and sleeping at 12 or 1am every night instead of doing homework. so let's make my love for music at least somewhat useful by sharing it with ya'll. just discovered Plan B (british artist) on the radio today and i especially like his song "love goes down." his album is apparently composed of songs that make up a (his?) life story. :] i have so much to say about each and every one of the songs on this playlist, but.. hopefully you just get to listen to them all.

  • now to part ways once again. i'll chat with ya'll later! :) and i'm usually updating my tumblr and twitter so feel free to follow over there.
song of the moment - (more like LOL of the moment)
this video is the funniest thing i have seen in...pretty much..ever. please watch it.
Touch My Body - Beyonce --> Tuts My Barreh - Asian Karaoke Fail
ps. sorry for the layout issues in this post. i spent an hour trying to fix the spacing and such, but blogger isn't being so friendly right now. it's 1am. signing out.

    currently loving

there has been a lot on my mind and after a long, busy day, music--particularly piano music--always makes me feel better. i'm hoping to start learning/playing piano more before i head off to college. i'd love to be able to play one of gogol gonzales' songs from his "solo piano" album. my head's been kinda clustered--i'm probably just really tired--and i can feel tons of emotions at once when i listen to gonzales' solo piano pieces. it's just beautifully entrancing for me. hope you enjoy them too :)

(from the paris je t'aime soundtrack--haven't seen that movie but if the soundtrack is this good, i just might have to)

if you like gogol, then you have to check out manifesto. unfortunately i can't embed this one! (gogol and manifesto are my favorites so far, i also really enjoy carnivalse)

    song of the moment -
you'd think it'd be a piano song, but to be honest, i have been watching this scene every night. i wish i had a guy like duckie in my life.

sparklers only burn for so long

it's been about 2 weeks into second semester, and life is alright! i love not worrying about turning college apps, but i do wish i got to hear back from colleges sooner! i can't wait til the end of march/early april. seems like such a long wayz a way. and to think that two months after i hear from colleges, i'll be graduating-i'll have reached the end of my high school career. wow. well, i'll save that talk for when i actually get there.

for now, i've been enjoying reading frankenstein! i actually love the readings that we've been reading in ap english this year. i only wish i had more time to read some of the works. i'm not sure if my english teacher reads my blog--probably doesn't but i do wonder, because i'm following her blog, and apparently someone visits my blog every other day through her blog...anyway--but i have to admit, i didn't even read hamlet. and now we're going to come back to it in a few weeks. egad! haha. we also read heart of darkness, but i was like 'what the asdgjkl;a?!' when i read it because i didn't have enough time to actually read it. it seems like a book i'd actually really love though. so yay for reading :D

and finally, an outfit post! i have about 4 outfits waited to be posted (i even have one from like november that was actually taken in different scenery, but who knows when i'll post that..)

hope you like it! i had a lot of fun with this outfit and with the photos. :]

PS Check out Kenzie's Blog Love post! I got to be featured there! Kenzie's blog is also definitely worth checking out! I love her ouftits, her stories and they way she edits them pics. :)
I'm currently working on a 'showcasing other bloggers' thing too, so stay tuned brothas. :]

shirt - armani exchange; skirt - store in south korea; tights - jcrew
(i also wore one of my fav pairs of shoes; they're dark gray flats with colorful bead-like adornments but i didn't get a pic of that! actually, most of my outfit posts don't show my shoes because well, i don't really like my mom knowing i blog, and we don't wear shoes inside the house, so.. that's kind of that :// i wish i had a pic to show you though!.. oh wait! actually here's a pic from an old post! wow that was a big tangent...)

    a first love: blogging

soo...it's been exactly one year since my first post on this blog! blogging has been an unexpectedly awesome experience to say the least. 1 year and 139 posts ago, i thought this blog would be a lonely journal with me talking about my life, but i started posting photos of fashion/art that i liked and transferred the inspiration i had seen from other bloggers into my lifestyle. i've learned so many ways to think creatively about my clothes and i realized that my career doesn't have to be just journalism (what i think i'll go into, or communications...), but i can incorporate stuff i love with it too!

the biggest thing i love about blogging is interacting with other awesome bloggers. to this day, i penpal with a few bloggers whom i discovered through...blogging! i'm not quite sure what life would be like without them. and knowing that people spend the time to take even 5 seconds to visit my blog is just awesome. it's really crazy to think that...someone cares about what i think! sure, lots of bloggers probably just skim my post, comment with something trite and expect me to follow them back; i gotta admit, i've done that a few times myself, but when i remember why i started blogging, i remember that i blog for the sake of blogging-which has been my first love.

i say that because recently i found this awesome website about "first loves." it was created by some of northwestern's (love that school!) interactive design students and i was definitely inspired by it. totally recommend it to anyone! some stories are LOL-inducing and others are tear-stimulating (they're not just like "first loves" as in people, i promise. that would be too sappy, although i'd probably read that too). my favorites are john travolta, spaghetti, "she drives me crazy," and erin (not because it's my name or me, haha. this one was actually a serious one).

    from ourfirstloves.com

but back to being sappy about the blogiversary...thank you so much for making my first year of blogging really awesome. i think i have some readers who read my blog but have never told me so do holla, comment, email, whatever! (except please don't stalk me)

i also added a poll to the side of my blog to get your feedback about my blog! please do let me know: what you like about my blog, what you don't (constructive criticism is always appreciated) and what you'd like to see (new and old)! :):) i really want to change up my blog layout to something sleek, cool and simple, so if you have advice for that, please give a shout for that as well!

OH YEAH. BIG NEWS. 1ST SEMESTER OF MY SENIOR YEAR IS OVER. that means i have more of an excuse for senioritis to kick in; i.e. more time to...blog! i'm super super stoked and looking forward to interacting with more bloggers, hopefully start featuring other bloggers, but most of all, bringing back CLASS OF FASHION. and once i go to college, i'm hoping to do my own giveaways! i've wanted to since months ago, but couldn't because my parents don't really get blogging and yadda.

SO YES. Life is fabu at the moment. and i really hope it is for you as well.

let's just say, before today i have been feeling a lil like this:

and now i feel like dis:

    in the mean time

It's almost by blog-iversary :DD but until then, here are some things you can feast on while I prepare for my finals this week. It's been a wacky few months I tell you...

In between studying for exams, I've been listening to Two Door Cinema Club so much. I love them European musicians. (Speaking of which, I miss Europe! I can't wait to go back, whenever that may be...) I actually wrote about them a whileee back. :)

Not only do they have a really fresh and..."good" sound (after reading countless pages on cellular respiration, the roles of a president, starting at ugly numbers, I am devoid of brilliant vernacular...), but their music video is really great, a quality short film I'll say. I also think the way Sam Halliday eats toast at 1:10 is very...adorable?

I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of their new music video for "What You Know," but I love the song nevertheless and am utterly jealous of the girls who get to smooch them in the video.

The scenery in this video made me very nostalgic of my travels in Europe. mm...

    talk to you soon! :)

    oreo ice cream

so i'm back into the swing of school and ap calc is getting the best of me! if there is anything i complain about a lot, it is definitely that class. it has sapped the life out of me and stymied me from doing my best in other classes. i can't catch up in ap calc and it is just uber tough for me. i used to love math when it actually made sense, and it was just playing around with equations. and ap calc has caused me to complain like this, and i dont like complaining. see, it's even making me complain about other things; complaining about complaining.

i'm sorry my second post of the year started out negative! butttt--we all like big buts--on the bright side, i love the book we're reading in ap english--the awakening by kate chopin. i have to admit, for a lot of the books we read, i don't get to "get in the reading zone" for most of the books and i have to skim chapters, etc. i really love reading and english and exploring how these sentences, these simple words evolve into themes, all intertwining and creating powerful stories! but then, ap calc comes in to burst my bubble and i only have 10 minutes to read act III of hamlet.

but anyway! the awakening! i love it so much that i've noticed myself unconsciously making time to "get in my reading zone" for this book. not being able to entrust your life to someone, finding who you really are and not what society makes you, staying home at one place, and wanting to belong to someone -- i feel like those are some key themes in that book and they are definitely key themes in my life. only two books have made me cry--night by elie wiesel and the awakening. it just touched a level inside me that no other book has. and reading the awakening has instigated a few awakenings in myself, too; for one, it made me remember how much i love loving. it has been so long since i've enjoyed reading like this. and two, for some reason, it made me want to explore the arts deeper and let go of any worries, and go for creativity in everything no matter what people might think or say.

i had always been an active artist and appreciator, but since high school started, i sacrificed my art interests for what i thought were more career-related. so i took online art--which really isn't very art-y at all--instead of an actual arts course, so i could take journalism and video communications. anyway, das' why i luv bloggin'! here's an image i played around with; the simple, rich, pastel colors from 1:14 of this animation video really inspired me.

as for clothes, i've been indulging in the urban outfitter's clothes my mom bought me for christmas from their fabulous black friday sale. :]

    outfit details
    shirt - urban outfitters
    jeans - banana republic

and the dress i like to call the oreo ice cream dress. (story behind it: i was eating an oreo at church during their snack break (i know, it's pretty awesome), and i was thinking "holy st. francis, this is a good cookie." and "this oreo reminds me of a dress i wear.. ohyeah! but not the actual oreo cookie, but crushed oreo or oreo ice cream" and now i'm thinking i really want some oreos.)

    outfit details (all christmas gifts!)
    cardigan - urban outfitters
    dress - uo
    leggings - jcrew

some pictures from my christmas break that i didn't get to upload earlier! i made my family christmas cards and i was really proud of my celophane usage. :D i really wanted to do a 'how to post' but i wanted to make them within the 30 minutes that they were shopping at the grocery.

my brother gave me these "princess shimmer decorating glitter gels" for making cookies!

my first time making cookies not from the Pillsbury frozen cookie packages. i know, i am a terrible...human, for not making cookies from scratch before. and even this is technically not making cookies from scratch, but it was exciting enough for me. although they were so burnt and super stale, they tasted kinda good?...

so this was an unexpectedly long and rather legitimate post. i think i broke my new year's resolution on procrastinating less, because i definitely have a lot of homework left and it's past midnight, but i did fulfill the 'blog more' part. :s mmm...

    song of the moment -
the way Stevie Wonder sings it exudes so much beauty and emotion--love it even when it's not christmas.

    price tag - jessie j ft. b.o.b.

ps. class of fashion post coming soon (there's pictures from like months ago, so their fashion might be "out of season" but oh well. hehe)
