Class of Fashion

Five golden rings? Five dollar footlong? Nope. Five days of high school left. (that was really cheesy. teehee.) Hopefully this doesn't mean five days of Class of Fash left. I'll keep my eyes super open this week to make the most of my last few days of high school. I'll miss being able to show the world that high school kids are uber chic.. D:

Speaking of which, if you've been loving Class of Fash and you'll still be in high school for the 2011-12 school year, most definitely hit me up at erinykim93@hotmail.com. I'm hoping to expand Class of Fashion to wherever fashion and high school exists (i.e. anywhere on the planet) so don't hesitate to contact me. (Feel free to just say hi, too). :)

For now, here's the best of da best. And hopefully more to come later this week.

oreo ice cream

so i'm back into the swing of school and ap calc is getting the best of me! if there is anything i complain about a lot, it is definitely that class. it has sapped the life out of me and stymied me from doing my best in other classes. i can't catch up in ap calc and it is just uber tough for me. i used to love math when it actually made sense, and it was just playing around with equations. and ap calc has caused me to complain like this, and i dont like complaining. see, it's even making me complain about other things; complaining about complaining.

i'm sorry my second post of the year started out negative! butttt--we all like big buts--on the bright side, i love the book we're reading in ap english--the awakening by kate chopin. i have to admit, for a lot of the books we read, i don't get to "get in the reading zone" for most of the books and i have to skim chapters, etc. i really love reading and english and exploring how these sentences, these simple words evolve into themes, all intertwining and creating powerful stories! but then, ap calc comes in to burst my bubble and i only have 10 minutes to read act III of hamlet.

but anyway! the awakening! i love it so much that i've noticed myself unconsciously making time to "get in my reading zone" for this book. not being able to entrust your life to someone, finding who you really are and not what society makes you, staying home at one place, and wanting to belong to someone -- i feel like those are some key themes in that book and they are definitely key themes in my life. only two books have made me cry--night by elie wiesel and the awakening. it just touched a level inside me that no other book has. and reading the awakening has instigated a few awakenings in myself, too; for one, it made me remember how much i love loving. it has been so long since i've enjoyed reading like this. and two, for some reason, it made me want to explore the arts deeper and let go of any worries, and go for creativity in everything no matter what people might think or say.

i had always been an active artist and appreciator, but since high school started, i sacrificed my art interests for what i thought were more career-related. so i took online art--which really isn't very art-y at all--instead of an actual arts course, so i could take journalism and video communications. anyway, das' why i luv bloggin'! here's an image i played around with; the simple, rich, pastel colors from 1:14 of this animation video really inspired me.

as for clothes, i've been indulging in the urban outfitter's clothes my mom bought me for christmas from their fabulous black friday sale. :]

outfit details
shirt - urban outfitters
jeans - banana republic

and the dress i like to call the oreo ice cream dress. (story behind it: i was eating an oreo at church during their snack break (i know, it's pretty awesome), and i was thinking "holy st. francis, this is a good cookie." and "this oreo reminds me of a dress i wear.. ohyeah! but not the actual oreo cookie, but crushed oreo or oreo ice cream" and now i'm thinking i really want some oreos.)

outfit details (all christmas gifts!)
cardigan - urban outfitters
dress - uo
leggings - jcrew

some pictures from my christmas break that i didn't get to upload earlier! i made my family christmas cards and i was really proud of my celophane usage. :D i really wanted to do a 'how to post' but i wanted to make them within the 30 minutes that they were shopping at the grocery.

my brother gave me these "princess shimmer decorating glitter gels" for making cookies!

my first time making cookies not from the Pillsbury frozen cookie packages. i know, i am a terrible...human, for not making cookies from scratch before. and even this is technically not making cookies from scratch, but it was exciting enough for me. although they were so burnt and super stale, they tasted kinda good?...

so this was an unexpectedly long and rather legitimate post. i think i broke my new year's resolution on procrastinating less, because i definitely have a lot of homework left and it's past midnight, but i did fulfill the 'blog more' part. :s mmm...

song of the moment -
the way Stevie Wonder sings it exudes so much beauty and emotion--love it even when it's not christmas.

price tag - jessie j ft. b.o.b.

ps. class of fashion post coming soon (there's pictures from like months ago, so their fashion might be "out of season" but oh well. hehe)

hoping to hear airwaves say snow day...

i've completed 5 college apps and i have...7 left. :D i dont like to admit that because i know it's a bunch and people are like 'why youz applyin to so many? you are a silly overachieving asian.' but the truth is, i actually love all these schools i'm applying to and i'm not applying to them just cuz they have a nice name. when people ask me how many i'm applying to, i'm guilty of those white lies and i say i'm applying to like 8ish, and they're still like +_+, but i feel that i should be honest on my blog, because that's why i like my blog, so there's that! i should be doing those apps right now, but once again, i felt the urge to blog, as i always do, but don't really have the time for.

anyway, more life news, for my school's broadcast tv announcements program, i made a video called "fashion friday" in which i showcased different students and their outfits at my school! i loved doing it and next week i'm hoping to go a little comedic and make it a hip hop special, showcasing 'gangsta' outfits at my school (although there aren't many. my school's pretty white...). i wish i could upload it on my blog, but i'm not sure if that's violating their privacy, etc. :S

speaking of fashion stuff for school, i'm also writing an article for my school's magazine about street fashion and everyday fashion at my school. fashion is really permeating my life and i love it! when we're brainstorming for article ideas or story ideas for the broadcasting class, whenever the topic has to do with the arts, especially fashion, i just love it and get really excited! i feel like this is a sign that it's something i should look into as a career, but it's weird for me cuz i never thought i'd be doing fashion stuff since i'm definitely not a "cool" or "hip" kid. i don't own any high end designer clothes, and i really don't feel fashionable, but i love showcasing other fashion savvy people! it's awesome! so thanks again to blogging and all those fashion bloggers because fashion has definitely become a big part of my life. :)

and a few weeks ago, my school's ASB picked me as most school spirited senior girl for the month of october! it was really awesome and touching as well. i've always loved school spirit and to be honest, i felt like i never really got recognized for it, but when i was least expecting it, SHABAM. it was funny too because when they came into the room to tell me, i thought it was for someone else so i was like YAYYY!! with my hands in the air, and they're like 'it's for...ERIN' and i still had my hands in the air and i was like no way!!!! yup, that's the story of the day. haha.

and to give you a tiny glimpse of the 'fashion friday' video i made, here's the outfit i wore in the video while i interviewed people! :)

outfit details:
dress - urban outfitters
tights - anthropologie
necklace - ciel boutique

i bought that dress at an urban outfitters black friday shoppin' spree. i feel like my closet is not exactly...me, or at least the older me. a lot of my clothes are from years ago and i have some pieces that are new of course, but in general, i just wasn't feelin my closet...until i went to UO's black friday sale! :D

i've never actually participated in black friday shopping before, but for the first time, my mom (she has never black friday shopped too) and i woke up early to go to their sale and due to traffic etc, we got there are 9:15ish am, and their sale ended at 10. so we were like major rummaging and such. it was actually really funny how serious we were. but it was fabulous, i bought about 10 pieces of clothes from there which rarely happens because usually cool stores don't fit me. but it was a holiday miracle. :) since i bought so many items, my mom is saving most of them as christmas presents, so i can't show you them all yet, but here's a sweater dress that i got to wear early! :) (it's actually a tunic, but works as a dress for me. haha.) i can't wait to show you (after christmas that is) the other items i bought ! and after christmas, i'll actually have more time to blog!!! yipperrooooo!!

now for some photos from the snow days last week before thanksgiving (speaking of which, i hope everyone had a great one!).

yes, i'll admit i'm slightly creeper, i wasn't following the guy in the bicycle around, but i thought it was just so perfect and scenic (but thinking about it...who rides their bike in inches of snow?...)

and since it's december, merry early christmas! :)

speaking of the holidays, here are some printable holiday gift tags courtesy of my owl barn!

also, i think these dress collages are adorable and so appropro for the holidays. :)

songs of the moment -
there are so many songs i'm listening to recently! hope you don't mind the but here's the one from which i got my blog post title from (discovered it via starbucks commercial!):

and this song is so funny: the salmon dance - the chemical brothers (you can already tell it's hilarious, i mean 'the salmon dance'?) and if you're feelin' some more chemical brothers: do it again. they're music is really good and they're quite the comedians, at least in my opinion!
and cuz i love christmas (this song is really catchy):

With a little magic...

Soooo this is going to mostly be a photo-fun-filled post! Last night was Homecoming and it was so refreshing to not have to worry about anything but lookin' perty with some friends and music. I'm so excited to submit my Early Decision app in a few days!

And I just found out that I'm a semi-finalist of my first scholarship! Wish me g'luck at the interview this Saturday! I mentioned my blog (in both my scholarship and college app) so thank you guys for being there. My blog has really been valuable and I'm not sure what my life would be like without it. From Class of Fashion, to just life-posts like this, man, all I can say is, God is good.

And please do pray for my health. Everything except my health and my relationship with my mom has been great. Those are two big things, but all the good things have overshadowed them I guess. I've been hacking mucus all day and feeling like a Thermos - if that makes sense. My voice sounds like a broken harmonica and I sneezed in my tea twice today. They make for a good story right? ;) I'm sure you very much appreciated this journal.

Oh and other "fun" news. During the car ride to the dance, my friends and I were listening to this one song with lyrics that go "flash yo titties," (I promise that is not my normal music taste) and someone cut her off while driving so I shouted "everybody flash yo titties!" We didn't actually do it, but it was just.. great in the weirdest way. Sorry for the terrible grammar and what not. It's late, I'm sleepy, not a good combo.

Wow, this post is wordier than I thought. Anyway, here's some photos from da night and from spirit week ! I love school spirit and I love life! :D

That's my pops and me! We look so alike. :)

My fashionista friend Isabelle (who also blogs and obvi wears gorgeous clothes)

Magic Monday! (during spirit week)

I think I was actually tripping in this photo...

This photo came out super yellow so my friend (aka, big sista from anotha motha) editted it for me. I look extra Harry Potter-like. Cho Chang much? (if you have time, you should check out her flickr photos! she has some really fun 365 portrait thangs) ;)

PS. Sorry for not editing a lot of these photos! I just had to blog, so this is the best I could do! :) Thanks again for all the support! G'bless! :)

CF D23: When You Smile...

It's been ages since I've last updated Class of Fashion, but I promising I think about it every day! And I was in love when I saw this gal's outfit - the ruffles, colors and the whole ensemble was lovely. She wasn't just pretty, but very friendly too! Smiles and nice-ness always make things better. :)
