30% extra off the sale price of things doesn't sound like a bad idea. somehow i ended up on madewell's website clicking through the sale menu as if i'm about to order something. i never end up ordering. madewell is one of those. but then i remember, crewcuts (i.e. jcrew's kids clothes to clarify for the people who are so out of touch of the erin state of mind that is always scoping kids clothes) is a point of no return for me. and because i have no reason to take advantage of their current sale, i thought i'd share it with you, although you probably also have no reason to take advantage of their current sale at least with my picks from the kid's section--mostly because you prob aren't the size of a 10 year old boy like I am, but WHATEVER.
here's a glimpse into what i'd buy if i really needed some clothes from head to toe (in this case, ankle, if you want to get really particular). mind you, these pieces are all on sale and at very reasonable prices with the additional sale happening. so i'm serious about if i would actually buy these. henceforth, you should buy these so i can feel like i bought them.
(isn't this jacket so lady like?! mad props for the 6 year old that wears this, or props to the parent i guess.)
if you wear it right, all this stuff is totally passable as "womens"wear! so like i said, since i'm not buying these goods, get em while they're hot--and share if you do. or actually, my birthday may or may not be around the corner. whether or not that's the truth? you'll never know.
Sometimes I feel like I'm innately very goth/emo/dark. Those may or may not--probably the latter--be the right words. But my point is, when black is paired with something extra--lace or neon or prints and patterns or jewels--that is sex-to-the-ay! But when I see layers of black on black on black and there's not much variation in texture or visual interaction, I don't see that as chic, creative or all that stylish if you ask me. If you showed me a good example of chic black layering that involved no variation at all, I might change my mind! I just can't see anything in my head right now that is all black, no diversity (no pun intended) in pattern or texture that is still spicy to the eye--I guess spicy isn't the right word either, it's 2:10am what can I say.
This 3/4 sleeve dress by Topshop inspired me and I did some xplorin' after that. I loved the cream incorporation and I feel like it could be so feasible to make, not that I even have a sewing machine or have ever made my own clothes for that matter. What do you think? That crown in the background looked way cooler and suave on my actual polyvore mid-creation, but take it for what it is.
p.s. i wanted to do an "ootd" (with my professional camera phone and through classy mirror pics) but my wifi is so janky that it wouldn't let me send the photos over. i tried to be patriotic in my color selection since twas election day and my first time voting! zing!! more to come. even if i share the outfit later, it won't be late since patriotism should never get old right?
Martha Violante did some awesome styling for a Papermag shoot inspired by none other but Dr. Seuss. I mean look at this, bright colors, delicious patterns, cut out backdrops, big balloons--this is beyond awesome.
Then when I thought that was awesome enough, Shirley Kurata styled a shoot called "Am I Dreaming?" and I definitely thought I was. The vintage, retro vibe going on is something so familiar, and yet the distance that the background designs add that tone of otherworldly.
This kind of creativity is so up my alley, so both of these shoots just rocked my world. And the fact that I encountered them all in one night, zugh, only Paper Mag could do that. Oh you beautiful things of Paper Magazine.

my friend isabelle (whom i recently took some fab photos with) recently hand-me-downed some amazing bright blue tights! i've always wanted bright, opaque tights and i can't wait to wear these! while shopping for tights with and for a friend today, i came to realize how often i wear them and how much i love them! tights are so awesome i'm not sure how else to describe them.
since i'm new to the world of bright tights, i went to my go-to source of endless (literally, photos keep appearing when you think there's no more) fashion inspiration, lookbook.nu, and searched "blue tights." so many different and inspiring images of outfit posts with blue tights appeared that i thought i'd compile my favorites into a blog post. if you've never worn bright tights, this might be your chance.
1. for a modern and casual-business look, blue tights matched with a simple black skirt or shorts seems like the way to go. button details add a playful touch to a dramatic look.
2. for a more feminine and vintage look, pair blue tights with a lacy, white or off-white top. the blue packs a pleasant punch and keeps a so-fem look down to earth, yet still daring, darling, and out of the norm.
other tips:
since bright blue can be super eye-catching, tone it down with softer hues of light pink, grey or even a different and darker shade of blue. this will emphasize your awesome bright tights.
even it out with another equally bright accessory:
like a chic, mustard yellow scarf.
or a colorful hair accessory
play with prints. patterns--like polka dots--paired with bright blue can exude a subtle and fresh vintage vibe:
