some more about myself + weird pics of me

Recently, fellow fashion blogger J of My Closet My Life passed the Preppy Mafia Award (what an interesting name :D) to me. The award comes with a set of questions which I'm so excited to answer! Thank you so much J, you're a wonderful blogger and friend! :]

1. Who is your style icon?
In fashion, I don't really have one person I look up to. I pick up a little bit of everything from everywhere including celebrities like Kirsten Dunst, Zooey Deschanel, Audrey Hepburn, everyday fashion in my school, when I go to the city, lookbook.nu and European street fashion.

2. Which is your favourite socialite book?
I'm not exactly sure what a "socialite book" is but I'm guessing a fashion book? I love Teen Vogue,
European Vogue and sometimes Nylon. :]

3. Favourite party theme?
50s! I love old school pastels, big poofy tulle dresses, gentlemen in their snazzy suits, etc. My ideal party would be a mix of this video (50s bowling party like in Across the Universe) and this video (50s prom partay - not to mention jim sturgess' adorable headshake at 1:28). There must be swing dancing! And if time, icebreaker, board and other games (like Ninja, Catchphrase, Hide and Seek, Pictionary, Charades, and tag)! Now that's a party.

4. Go to Halloween costume.
Pumpkin! (these aren't the best pics, but oh well!) (from Halloween 2008)

5. Extravagance you cannot live without?
Probably most definitely clothes. Although I do know a lot of people who buy much more than I do. I just feel like I buy too much stuff I dont need. D:

6. Living person you admire?
That's a pretty tough one, but I'd have to go with my mom. She has to put up with whiney me and worry about me all the time while my dad is working in S. Korea and my brother is looking for a job in NJ and rarely calls us. She had to go through so much pain and tough times alone (like coming to Seattle two years ago by herself to search for a house for her and me, and fighting Breast Cancer, moving 4 times in two years in Washington), but she not only got through it all, she learned/s something from everything. She's a great role model in many ways (except for when she gets crazy mad and kicks me out of the house because she misunderstood a phrase I said - I don't really appreciate that part). :)

(from 3 years ago with my fam - minus the big bro - at the airport in s.korea)

7. Greatest fears?
a. Getting off track and doing something seriously stupid like drugs.
b. Never being able to find true love. Or thinking I found it and then it's gone.
c. Something happening to my mom. When I'm really stressed, I always have nightmares about my mom getting hurt, one time even stabbed (multiple times) with a knife, and another time even getting shot. Egkklsdawegjsdl... I dont want to think about it anymore...
d. Being shot with a gun. When I'm really stressed, I also have nightmares about getting attacked and stuck in my house alone with a burglar.

"rap music" day (2 years ago) (yes, I am pretty G)

8. Traits you deplore in yourself?
a. Procrastinating (which I am doing right now D:).
b. Taking on too many tasks and wanting to do so much more than I can handle.
c. Not being able to say no.

pic from my first blog post, when procrastinating began to get serious.

9. Which talent would you most love to have?
To be brave about singing and acting! For some strange reason, I can jabber on stage without fear (ok there is a teensy bit of fear, but y'know), but I can't get myself to sing or act in public! If I could do that, I feel like I'd be a much better singer/actor too, but it's just so hard!

10. Greatest achievement?
Not caving into the expectations of others. This is my lifestory but I'll describe it in a nutshell: I was known as the "optimistic" kid and people always told me "why don't you swear?" "it's about time you grow up" "you're so naive and innocent" "you wouldn't understand" (my tiny stature only encouraged those thoughts) and i couldn't STAND it! People think that being positive is so... childlike and easy, but it's actually the hardest thing to do as a teen (and I don't think it's that diff in the adult world). I cried in my closet for maybe two hours and asked myself "am I going to live for this world or for something greater?" and I chose the latter because although I wanted to live for the world and for people, I knew I'd never be happy. So here I am today still fighting for happiness. :)

("guerilla chalking" at a writing camp at UC Berkeley - summer 2008)

Now I'd like to pass this to lifesize paperdoll, canadieren, notebook doodles, bad penny, tony wang, dear kohls, jamie, jordan, and anyone else who'd like to participate! So tag, you're it, too! :)

Thanks for the tag and what great answers. You really love this and it clearly shows! And it's so awesome you admire your mother so much! Many mommys would love their children to be so expressive about returning that love. =]

Oh, and what kind of high school fashion project?
