Thinking Pink (in 3 ways)

I was browsing J.Crew a week or two ago for no good reason--what's new. And in the sale section, I found probably the cheapest thing in store: a striped sweater/top for $10, which turned out to be $8.50 with a student discount. It was bright, colorful and in a size XXS in women's, so you bet I took it home with me. (I bet you're surprised I didn't purchase anything from Crewcuts).

Since I've been really feeling this punchy top, here are three ways I found myself wearing it. If you have a bright top you've lost inspiration to wear, or wanna try somethin' new with it, you've come to the right place. And even if you don't have such a top, I think you've still come to the right place.

1. Over a shift dress + tights

 2. Over a button down + rolled up khakis + oxfords/wingtips (coif not included but suggested for additional sass)

This was probably my favorite way I wore it. Wearing pants is so comfortable, esp. these chinos (is that what they're called? I feel unnecessarily racist when I say it?) also from J.Crew. Menswear inspired looks are my deal, and add a little kids flair and you've won me over. (the top is from Banana Republic. I've worn it for years. It has been the shirt that has helped me realize my penchant for collars, and it all started with a good sale, just like with today's story!)

3. With a long skirt + fun brooch

I wore this look on Valentine's Day! I felt like a walking strawberry short cake with my pastel pink knit socks from Anthrologie, and the overall pink/cream mix happening. The skirt is also from Anthro.

Heart pins, esp with an arrow through it, are very wearable. Really glad I got this gem long ago during a brooch rummage at the Brooklyn Flea. You really can't go wrong with heart-themed pins.

I have blogged three days in row. This is too good to be true. Or maybe the beginning of a very good truth. We'll see. Signing out.

new waves

on my birthday i did a little anthropologie splurgin' (it was still on sale. but still a splurge -_-) and was won over by this long knit skirt. it's probably supposed to go to like the knees for the average women, but i still enjoy how i wore it! the second outfit is from a slightly chillier weather, but same skirt nonetheless.

more photos to come. quick 411 about my life. it's 2:37 am. i'll be volunteering tomorrow morning. i'll be catching up on lots of reading. i'll be hitting myself to sleeping so stupidly late. i saw the black keys and the arctic monkeys; they were glorious, beautiful, divine, and sex(y). i've been listening to JET nonstop. i bought tix to see the shins! and i also notice that i'm blogging a lot more frequently than i have in the past. is this coming back?! is my blogging swag rejuvenated?! i guess we'll see. :)

roses are red, violets are blue, and so are these tights

(as i typed this blog post's title, i have come to question, are violets actually blue?...ponder of the day)

my friend isabelle (whom i recently took some fab photos with) recently hand-me-downed some amazing bright blue tights! i've always wanted bright, opaque tights and i can't wait to wear these! while shopping for tights with and for a friend today, i came to realize how often i wear them and how much i love them! tights are so awesome i'm not sure how else to describe them.

since i'm new to the world of bright tights, i went to my go-to source of endless (literally, photos keep appearing when you think there's no more) fashion inspiration, lookbook.nu, and searched "blue tights." so many different and inspiring images of outfit posts with blue tights appeared that i thought i'd compile my favorites into a blog post. if you've never worn bright tights, this might be your chance.

1. for a modern and casual-business look, blue tights matched with a simple black skirt or shorts seems like the way to go. button details add a playful touch to a dramatic look.

2. for a more feminine and vintage look, pair blue tights with a lacy, white or off-white top. the blue packs a pleasant punch and keeps a so-fem look down to earth, yet still daring, darling, and out of the norm.

other tips:
since bright blue can be super eye-catching, tone it down with softer hues of light pink, grey or even a different and darker shade of blue. this will emphasize your awesome bright tights.

even it out with another equally bright accessory:
like a chic, mustard yellow scarf.

or a colorful hair accessory

play with prints. patterns--like polka dots--paired with bright blue can exude a subtle and fresh vintage vibe:

how will i wear my new bright blue tights? i'm not sure but i can promise you it will be on my mind everytime i look at my closet. i'll keep you posted :)
