viva la love

I have no idea if "viva la love" is a phrase, but you get the gist. :) Valentine's Day may be annoying for all you single ladies (and I guess males...), but I really think it's an awesome day even for the people who go solo! I see it as a day of love and love doesn't have to be about a beau, at least I think so! Thus, I wish a Mucho Happy Valentine's Day to you! And it reminds me that even if my fabulous Prince Charming has yet to sweep me off my feet, at least there is still life, people, humanity, love all around. So, the least I can do on my Valentine's Day for my blog is send a little blog love to ya'll. :)

And I'm sorry for the rather large delay in my blogging during the last week. I really do have good excuses but I'm sure you don't want me to go into detail about that. I'll probably rant about it in an upcoming post.

 I  got these new sparkly tights (only for $5 at American Eagle! score!)  and although my legs look like some kind of fat leech, I wasn't sure how to angle my camera to show the sparkly-ness of my tights. so there's that. And get ready for  an awesome outfit post with these tights later this week! My friend and  I are going match (matching is so fun)!:P

SAM i am & a little bit about love

Yesterday, some school friends and I visited the downtown Seattle Art Museum and I loveeed the Alexander Calder exhibition. His mobiles and sculptures exhibit a true perfection of balance and art. My favorite part of his works is the shadows that result from the skeletal wire sculptures and mobiles. The objects bantering in mid air and the dangling shapes dancing on the walls remind me of mobiles from a baby's crib. The delicacy and beauty is simply whimsical and enlightening. I think Calder has become one of my favorite artists.

And since it's Valentine's Day, I thought I'd share a story about my love, not for a hubby, but for my mother; after all, Valentine’s Day is about love in general, right? :) So, every year I hand-make cards for my mother every Valentine’s Day, Christmas, and her birthday. My father lives in S. Korea and my brother on the East Coast, so my mother and I have grown very close throughout the years as it’s just us two all the time. Although there’s many years between us -- especially since my brother's over 25 -- she’s like my best friend, making funny jokes, eating out and watching movies with me all the time, but at the same time she’s the best mother I could have ever asked for with the best advice, best sewing skills, and of course, the best food that only a mother could cook.

This year is my junior year of high school and boy, with all the college prep and school work, I forget how much my mother does for me. She always schedules her itinerary according to my school day and whether or not I need a ride (since I don’t have my own car). She sacrifices her time to find the best educational opportunities for me; and yet I take for granted all the things she’s done for me. Unfortunately, sometimes I even complain that she doesn’t do enough.

When I realize all the time and energy my mother sacrifices for me despite her weak health (as she recovered from breast cancer a few years ago), I am utterly thankful for all that she’s done and sometimes only tears can express my gratitude for her.

Education is a top priority for me (I wanna make it big one day y’know? :) ), and despite all my busy-ness, hopefully I can muster up a little card for my mother to continue my tradition. I'm so glad I have days like today to remind myself of what really matters in life -- love.
